Need for Pest Managment

04/13/2012 12:57

From ABC News to USA Today, the news around the United States is pests and human health concerns.  From the re-emergence of bedbugs to the unchecked spread of mosquito-borne West Nile virus and tick-borne Lyme disease, consumers are worried about how pests can harm themselves and their families.  Protecting the family is a primary concern for our customers.

The pest management industry is a major factor in agricultural, food related, and travel industries that contribute over 40 percent to our GDP.  The following are some little known facts about the value of the pest management industry:

  • Without pest management practices, pests could destroy more than 50 percent of our food crops.
  • Innovations in pest control parallel an increase in life expectancy.  A child born in 1940 had a life expectancy of 63 years.  A child born in 1984 has a life expectancy of 74.7 years, an increase of more than 11 years.
  • It would be difficult to find any segment of the food industry that could comply with federal regulations for sanitation and health without an adequate pest management program.
